IFC Films vs Revolver Entertainment

We picked IFC films and Revolver Entertainment as the two companies that would be most likely to distribute our film. We felt that they were very different and only wanted one company as we had limited time in our film opening and only one was necessary. Therefore, we done some more in depth research in to each company and the films in our genre that they distribute. We had to consider the features and themes of the whole plot of our film; rather than the opening alone.

Revolver Entertainment:
Kidulthood
Sket
Anuvahood
Shank

All of these films are in the 'urban' spectrum of British drama, and set in London, as is 'Rocks & Bottles'. Also, all of these films explore the issues of gang culture and violence which are also themes in 'Rocks & Bottles'. However, this may not be clear just from the opening that we have made.

IFC Films:
Fishtank
Albatross

Both of these films have a young female as the main protagonist, which can be established from the opening of 'Rock & Bottles'. Both are also set in suburban areas of a town. This is where 'Rocks & Bottles' begins but then goes onto a city centre location in London, which is significant to the plot of the film. Both of these films are dramas, following main characters and exploring personal themes such as family and growing up, similar to 'Rocks & Bottles'.

Conclusion:
We decided to use Revolver Entertainment as our distribution company. We think they would be more appropriate as they have previously produced films that explore similar themes to ours and would therefore be more experienced with issues such as gang culture and they also have expertise in aiming films at our target audience. Also, our central London location will be more appropriate for Revolver Entertainment rather than IFC who we think are less likely to distribute an "urban" British drama.

Here are some quotes from the Revolver Entertainment website that also helped us reach our decision:
"blends international reach with extensive local knowledge"

"Revolver's independant spirit and flair"

"It's a studio approach, everything under one roof, but with the heart and flexibility of an idependent"

"experts in youth entertainment"

Distribution Companies

To decide which film distribution company would be most likely to distribute our film I did some research in to films in our genre of "British drama" and similar genres to see which companies had distributed the most and which companies films similar to ours had used:

Distribution Company
Films
Revolver entertainment
Kidulthood
Sket
Anuvahood
Shank
Pathé Pictures International
Adulthood
IFC Films
Fish Tank
Albatross
Universal Pictures
Cherrybomb
Green Street

From this initial research we concluded that Revolver Entertainment or IFC Films would be the company most likely to distribute our film.
