Garageband

To create the music for our coursework we decided to find uncopyrighted music on the internet through sites such as SoundCloud and YouTube. Once we'd found suitable pieces for before, during and after the montage, we decided to edit the sound so the soundtrack was parallel to actions on screen.

As an example, we'll look at the first piece of music featured in the film opening which was edited the most.

Before creating the piece, I had to import the music from SoundCloud that we'd saved as a file onto Garageband. After doing this, I listened through and liked a specific section which I thought worked well with the scene. The section was not long enough however to simply play through the scene therefore I had to copy and paste sections so that it repeated for a little longer until there was a break in the scene that allowed for a different section of the music to fit in nicely.

To do this I had to firstly split the clip around the section I wanted to repeat so it was a separate clip to copy.

I then copy and pasted this section where I needed it and compared it to how long the scene was (i.e. how long I wanted the section of music to bit to be parallel). I then repeated coping and pasting as many times as I needed.

When the piece was complete I saved in iLife preview so I could import it into iMovie.

From here, I could edit how it sounded, for example, I added a muffled effect on the first section and made the music fade in.

I used these methods for the rest of the process when creating the soundtrack for our film opening.
